sometimes i dress up

Hello friends! Although, Patagonia shorts and a tee shirt is my preferred outfit of choice, sometimes I dress up. This post contains a few outfits that I’ve worn recently.

I love colors + I have been trying to incorporate as much color as I can into my style!

Might I add that taking photos in the school bathroom, without any ladies walking in and giving you terrible looks is quite difficult.

taylor holliday wears makeup?!

If you know me, you know that I am not into makeup at all. In tenth grade, I decided to go out and buy probably about $150 worth of nice makeup that I’ve probably used about three times to date. Bad decision. I have troubled skin & makeup just seems to make it worse (for the most part)!

Glossier is a makeup & skincare brand out of New York. I think it’s safe to say that I may or may not be one of their biggest fans (I am, without a doubt). They have a variety of skin care products ranging from face masks to lipstick. Their products work extremely well. Not to mention their packaging… which is BOMB. You guys- I am a sucker for packaging. I seriously cannot even lie, I’ll buy anything that’s in a cool bottle- in fact, that’s what caught my eye in the first place! If you’re interested in purchasing products from Glossier, click here for 20% off your purchase.

I currently use quite a few of Glossier’s products in my ‘daily makeup routine/skincare regimen…’ if you can even call it that. I do use foundation (sometimes), cleansers, and creams, but they’re not Glossier products! Here are the Glossier products that I use most days of the week! For those of you who are looking for a simple, sweet and natural look, Glossier is for you!

To start off the day, I use a couple drops of the Super Pure Serum (linked below) before moisturizing!

My favorite Glossier product is Boy Brow! I believe that most would agree with me in saying that Boy Brow is the best brow product on the market! I’m a big big big fan. I use Boy Brow in the shade brown! Boy Brow thickens, fills in, and grooms brows into place WITHOUT that thick and somewhat gross feeling. I’ve been wanting to give my brows a tad bit more definition and color- this did the trick!

I top it all off with the Rose Balm Dotcom (a multipurpose lip and skin salve). I do love some nice, subtle color on the lip. This product is perfect for that simple, light look.

After I cleanse my face at night, occasionally I like to put a face mask on! Recently, I’ve been hooked on the Mega Greens Galaxy Pack! It’s a detoxifying face mask that I can truly feel working! I tend to jump around when it comes to face masks. I think that I have somewhere between 4-5 jars of face masks sitting on my sink. BUT! I’m always running back to this mask.

a guide to new york

Obviously I’m no expert. Well, I’m not quite sure that anyone can be a so called “expert” of a city. All I know is that I love cities and anyone that knows me knows that I love New York. Writing that made me think of those ‘I Heart New York’ shirts- pair one of those bad boys with mom jeans + my Adidas and you’ve got me SOLD. Okay… moving on. Like I said, obviously I’m not a native New Yorker. But, overtime I’ve gathered quite a few spots that, personally, I am a big fan of.

When I visit a new city, I try to find local spots and get a better feel for the neighborhood that I’m in.

I get this feeling when I’m in the city, one that I can’t seem to explain. The energy is bouncing off the walls. There is something about walking in on a side walk and passing thousands of people daily. Every unit in a building tells a different story. I’ve visited New York a handful of times- and had my heart broken every time I take that taxi ride over the Queensboro Bridge. I think I’ll write another post about

Here’s a little guide to place that I hope to call home in the future.

When you first arrive in the city, throw your bags down & hit the ground running. Chances are, you won’t have much time so it’s best to take advantage of every moment.

I would start off by locating the closest Subway station. The Subway is going to be your best bet in terms of affordable, reliable transportation. There can be (and often times there are) delays due to construction. So, you do have to be aware of which trains are running at that date and time. You can purchase a 7-Day Unlimited Pass for $32. This little, yellow Metrocard will take you just about anywhere you want to go! $32 might seem like a lot for say a four day trip, but trust me- it’s a bang for your buck. On average, most Uber or Lyft rides cost about $8-$13. I highly recommend taking the Subway over Uber or Lyft. The Subway can be extremely confusing at first, but luckily, Google Maps has a new feature that will direct you through the twists, turns, and transfers of the subway lines!

Okay! Now onto the good stuff!

Two Hands Cafe ::

A wonderful Australian Restaurant that you MUST check out. Two Hands is currently being renovated. I believe they now have two locations! One being a cafe (BOMB BRUNCH) and the other being a restaurant and bar, serving more than one meal! Do your research when you’re in town + see if they’re done with renovations at either of the locations!

Jack’s Wife Freda ::

Jacks Wife is quite the popular spot. It too has two locations! The Rosewater Waffle comes highly recommended!

The Butcher’s Daughter ::

The Butcher’s Daughter- A great spot for vegans, vegetarians, and those dairy free folk (truly anyone)! This place is fresh and tasty. I wouldn’t recommend it for large groups, though! It is a tiny space! You can sit down to eat or get juice + smoothies to go next door!

Tacombia Nolita ::

Tacombia Nolita- FAVORITE MEXICAN FOOD IN NYC!!!!!!!!!!!! Get the Chips & Guac. You seriously will not regret it.

Finding a local diner can be a fun + cheap breakfast alternative for one of your days in the city! My cousin took us to 3 Star Diner off of 1st Avenue. It was pretty yummy! You can’t go wrong with pancakes and bacon!

2 Bros Pizza ::

2 Bros Pizza (TWO SLICES + SODA = $3) In my opinion, 2 Bros Pizza is the best dollar pizza in New York. My friends know that I am LOYAL to my dollar pizza joint. I won’t go anywhere else- I really mean that!

Court Street Grocers ::

Stop by Court Street Grocers for a sub right in the heart of the West Village. Court Street Grocers is pretty much on the NYU Campus and a block from Washington Square Park!

Cookie DŌ NYC ::

I decided to take a trip to New York instead of going to my Senior Prom (a wonderful decision). My friend Macy said that she didn’t have any specific places that she wanted to hit up- except for one. I was watching one of Casey Neistat’s videos- one where he showed a HUGE line of people, that went on for blocks. The people were waiting on average 3-4 hours for COOKIE DOUGH. C’mon people… Of course, this place was all the rage on Facebook. And it just so happened to of been the ONE SPOT Macy wanted to hit up. I was hesitant at first, not wanting to spend 3-4 hours of our 72 hour trip. BUT Y’ALL. IT WAS WORTH IT. Given, we waited no more than 20 minutes for the popular “Cookie DŌ NYC!” It was so yummy. I don’t want to give a full out review on here, but if you have an hour or two to spare- I would recommend it!

Dough ::

SO MANY LOCATIONS! SO TASTY! If you find yourself in Bed Stuy, stop in & try the plain glazed donut (there are other locations, but the storefront in Brooklyn is my favorite). Best donuts in New York.

il laboratorio del gelato ::

il laboratorio del gelato is a must have. It’s a great dessert spot- it’s open late, too!!! This place has an awesome variety of gelato, creams, and sorbet! If you know me, you know how much I love lemon & watermelon sorbet. Their lemon sorbet (1/2 pictured below) is to die for!!!

THINGS TO DO (other than munch) !!!!!

TicTail Market ::

When I was last in New York (March), TicTail was selling/displaying art, clothing, etc. all designed/sold by women! #GIRLGANG!!! This place is amazingly unique. They also change the mural outside of their store every month to something wonderful and inspiring! A small boutique located in the Lower East Side. The LES is a fun place to walk around- so, make sure you stop in. The workers were super friendly, too. I love that!

Brooklyn – DUMBO ::

One morning, I walked around Brooklyn- stopping at Dough first (see above). I’d been wanting to check out the Brooklyn Bridge Park. It’s beautiful- photos truly don’t do it justice.

Manhattan Bridge doing it’s thing in the background! For a shot like this, Washington St. is going to be your best bet. This area of DUMBO stays pretty busy- so if you’re looking for a quiet morning walk or a clear shot hang out there in the morning!

Up next is the Brooklyn Bridge! Access to the bridge from Manhattan is located near City Hall Park or Pace University!

The Whitney Museum of American Art ::

The Whitney is a beautiful museum filled with breathtaking and interesting art! I browsed the art on a Friday night. It was so relaxing. This museum has CRAZY rooftop views during the day or at night (accessible to the public)!

The MOMA – The Museum of Modern Art ::

MY. FAVORITE. MUSEUM. Hands down!!! This place has got my heart. My words will not do it justice. You’ll just have to check it out for yourself! Please do, it is truly wonderful.

City Streets ::

One of my favorite parts of visiting the city, is simply walking around. I think that Tribeca, Chelsea, and the West Village are some of the most beautiful parts of the city to explore. You’d be surprised at how many stores and cafes you’ll find. I’ve found some of my favorite spots on an afternoon/early evening stroll.

The Oculus ::

This place is nuts. Take my word for it- just go check it out!

The Strand Bookstore ::

This is hands down my favorite spot in Manhattan. This bookstore has virtually any piece of literature that you could ever think of. Poems, manuscripts, plays, books, art- the works!

One of my favorite memories from New York is sitting in my uncle’s apartment eating gelato from the market around the corner while listening to an Aretha Franklin vinyl. Sometimes it’s easy to forget that you don’t always have to go out to have a good time. If you have a window, crack it open – or if you have a balcony, open the door and incorporate the city streets to your soundtrack. Take advantage of the time you have on this Earth and enjoy it with the people you love.

This was quite the lengthy post. I appreciate those of you that took the time to read my words. New York holds a large piece of my heart. When my feet hit the pavement, I feel at home. I hope that you enjoyed seeing New York through my eyes. Comment below some of your favorite spots in New York- I’d love to check them out next time I’m in town.

i don’t know how i feel about saturdays

I’m not quite sure how to begin this paragraph, post, entry? So, I guess this will have to be the start.

Last year, I created a blog to share my thoughts about my faith and my journey with self love in hopes of reaching someone on the other side of the screen. You see, I’ve always had a love for writing. There’s something wonderful about having a beautiful thought or an exciting idea and being able to document it. Recently, my brain has been overwhelmed with thoughts and ideas. I believe I’ve overwhelmed myself. I’m not “good” at keeping a consistent paper journal, so I thought that I’d give blogging another shot.

My purpose for this blog isn’t the same as the other blog that I had created last year. I’ve been contemplating joining forces with the “Blogosphere” for quite some time now, but I was hesitant due to the substantial mass of middle aged, Christian ladies that have blogs. BUT HEY! I’ve decided to go for it. To be completely honest, I am super stoked to get this blog rollin’. So, here I am. An eighteen-year-old, tall, brunette, wearing an otter shirt, contemplating what to order at Starbucks (pretty much sums up my Saturday), not sure what to write about, so I’m writing one big run on sentence.

When creating this website, I was unsure of what to name it. I think that this name is practical and fitting. I LOVE YELLOW. Period. That’s it. The color yellow is exuberant and joyful. In this life, that’s all that I strive to be. Plain and simple. Just for the record, I would like to point out that in a box of Crayola crayons, Dandelion surpasses all. So, here’s to being Dandelion in this world.

Thank you for joining me in this crazy thing that we get to call life. I am so glad that you clicked in.
